Loved the show ...... AS ALWAYS ?? Really nice to see the regular actors/actresses & new faces. All the stage set changes must have been exhausting, looks like the guys backstage got a good workout ?? Must admit my favourite part was 'Roz' singing & knocking EVERYTHING of the table in her solo set ..... You smashed it girl (including the props lol x). Great show again, well done everyone! Oh and thanks for my prize draw win ?? my first time (and hopefully not last) xx

Wow that was Dolly Partons greatest hit..... The Musical 9-5. Great to see New Garrett Theatre company this evening doing what they do best. An unfamiliar show to me so I wasn't sure what to expect. A fabulous cast featuring three very powerful ladies in the lead roles, including the star of the show Steph and her co stars. (I would mention them all by name but I didn't see any programs as I turned up just as the curtain was going up, due to the 7.15pm start) Not sure what those ladies were smoking with the imaginary dream scene but I was in stitches as it was performed so well. Steph's sister Joanne stole the show for me with a fabulous solo besotted with her sexist boss played be Karl who acted the part well. Smashing vocal from Joe the accountant, (juggling glasses is a skill) I am not sure who choreographed the amazing routines but they deserve a good pat on the back, good job well done. It's always nice to see recent stars giving everyone else a chance, although saying that they put everything into making a superb ensemble. Jim Taylor as Dick never fails to make me smile especially with his slug moustache. (Suits you friend) The lighting was great as always by Steve and his team, only issue was as we still have the light nights this time of year the curtains by the window could do with a total black out. Great use of the follow spots. AJ and friends took the reigns with the sound and an awesome job they all did. Always good to have live music, the only problem I could hear or couldn't hear was occasionally when the live band were playing some vocals were lost due to the volume of the top musicians. The backstage team with Andy, lil Al and team headed up by cameo star Keith did a seamless job with no awkward silent pauses, making the show run as smooth as possible. Lesley and Debbie along with all the Front of House as always did a tremendous Job. To all involved and top marks for the direction and production. Did I mention in the ticket price you get a pasty and a brew. So not only a top night of entertainment you get catered for as well. Keep up the good work all, hopefully I will see you all at the Panto 2018.

Jack the Ripper 2016

Jack the Ripper, New Garrett Theatre, Atherton Community School, Saturday 9th July 2016
Ladies of the night beware there is a killer on the loose – or is there – is it a ‘friend in disguise’ with an ulterior motive. And so the scene was set for the latest offering from the members of the New Garrett Theatre.

Word must have spread throughout the town as friends, family and am-dram fans alike packed the large hall at Atherton Community School on Saturday night for the company’s production of Jack the Ripper.

And if you are thinking to yourself, how this infamous tale of death and dreaded fear – which, it has to be said, can still chill the bones even in this day and age - can be transferred and told on stage in the form of a light-hearted musical, then New Garrett Theatre showed us how.
The ladies of the night threw themselves into their roles and were word perfect in both song and narrative. Such a pity that three of them were ‘killed off’ along the way.

The gents didn’t miss out on the action either, especially when the policemen had to go in search of the killer dressed in disguise as women – men in drag always manages to raise howls of laughter and they did not disappoint – no sign of nerves here.

But the ladies not only had to look over their shoulders wondering when the killer would strike again they also had to fend off the unkindly advances of their so-called friends. But in the mean streets of London it was every man, or woman, for themselves.

Credit must also be given to the lighting and design crew for their atmospheric music hall setting of the hall with the clever use of tables and - it worked perfectly well together.

Just arrived home after witnessing one of the most enjoyable evenings at any theatre, be it professional or amateur. The whole evening was perfect, the casting, the lighting, the musicians, the stage design, the sound, the front of house, those backstage, producers everything was brilliant.
It would be unfair to name any one person in this fantastic cast as everyone, from major players to the chorus, were perfect. I first saw NGT many many years ago when they did Blood Brothers at Tyldesley Fred Longworth school, I have been hooked ever since. I have never been disappointed, be it pantomime or musicals. Your new venue the Atherton Community School is a perfect choice for any theatre group, it is obvious that the management at this school are very committed to helping the community. Long may it continue.

Well after spending last week at Glastonbury festival watching the big stars on the big stages, I came home to some normality and watched some good friends in a show called Jack the Ripper in Atherton this evening.
I was unsure of how you could possibly do a musical about Jack the Ripper but omg The New Garrett theatre group certainly put on a great show. All the cast played their parts amazingly.
A fabulous set, period costumes, super lights and sound, complete with a live band, all made a wonderful evenings entertainment all for the price of 7 pounds, everyone was fantastic especially the harmonies and I would be here til the morning if I mentioned everyone involved, but I must give a very special mention for the superb acting skills and vocal talents of Adele Taylor, Anna Glynn, Amy Gaskell who shone like stars on that stage.
Excellent direction, production team, front of house and stage management.
Who needs the big names and stages when you can see local talent on a top stage, You still have a chance to go and see them tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday if you're at a loose end.
Well done to all involved, have a great rest of the run.
